The Process

During the Wedding Ring Experience you’ll be using centuries old handcrafting techniques as described below.  Your jeweller will illustrate each step for you and will be at your side guiding you through the process, which most people find surprisingly easy.  You can also click here to watch a video of a couple making their rings, or read our Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.

Milling

First you mill the metal into the width, thickness and shape you have chosen using a rolling mill.

Shaping

Using a ring bender, you bend the metal into a ring shape and saw off any surplus metal from either end before bringing the two ends together.

Soldering

Under a gas flame, and using special metal solder, you fuse the two ends together.

Filing and Buffing

With a variety of files, you refine the shape of the rings and remove any imperfections. Sitting next to each other at our specially designed workbenches, you can watch the ring your partner is creating for you taking shape.

Polishing

Finally, you polish the rings until they shine.  If you only want plain wedding bands, your rings are now finished.

Optional Extras

If you want to add diamonds or engraving, or if your ring needs to be fitted to your engagement ring, your jeweller will finish the rings for you.  This usually takes 2-3 weeks (but can be done more quickly if necessary).
