Creative Wedding article: "Banding Together"

Make your very own wedding bands under the guidance of an experienced jeweller.

While it may be thrilling to receive an engagement ring, it is the wedding band that symbolises your pledge of eternal love.  In fact, the only way the exchange of these rings could be more heartfelt is if you had personally made them for one another.  With Larsen Wedding Rings, that is exactly what you can do.  In just four hours, and with a little professional help, you will have created two elegant wedding bands and one memory of a lifetime.

"We discovered Larsen Wedding Rings at a Sydney bridal expo and thought the idea of making one another's bands would be really special," says Jade, who recently attended Larsen's studio with fiance Angelo.  "We made identical two-tone 18 carat gold rings, each with a few small diamonds and our names engraved on them.  Being able to present each other with the rings we had designed and hand made while exchanging vows was honestly the highlight of our day."

The good news is, you don't have to have creative skills or prior experience because - at every stage - you will be assisted by your very own expert jeweller.  Larsen Wedding Rings uses traditional handcrafting techniques which produce rings of the highest quality, and your jeweller will ensure the finished rings are absolutely flawless.  "People are amazed that not only can they make their own rings, but that the rings end up as perfect as if a jeweller had made them," says Lars Larsen.

Lars and wife Susie established Larsen Wedding Rings in 2006 - it is the first and only company in Australia to offer this exciting experience.  The Larsens also provide beautiful custom-made jewellery, including engagement rings, through their twin business Larsen Jewellery.  So, if you and your fiance have decided to choose your engagement ring together, this is a terrific place to start.  Larsen Jewellery also sells loose diamonds at wholesale prices, making it more affordable if you want to incorporate them into your wedding band design.

When it comes to choosing the design and style of your wedding band, there is no need to limit your imagination.  Larsen Wedding Rings offers a wide range of designs, from plain wedding bands to more intricate designs involving diamonds, a mix of metals or engraving.  Alternatively, you can create your very own design.  Plain bands can be finished on the day while more complicated designs will need to be finished by the jeweller.  Larsen Wedding Rings will also ensure that your wedding band fits perfectly with any engagement ring.

Once you have settled on the design of your rings, the real "hands on" experience begins.  Together, you and your fiance melt down your chosen metal and then mill and shape the rings.  Then it is time to file, buff and polish them until they shine.  Throughout the experience, you will enjoy complimentary nibbles and beverages, including champagne to toast your success.  You'll even receive photographs of the day and a lifetime of annual polishes to keep your wedding bands sparkling.  "We highly recommend it to anyone getting married," says Jade.  "It's a very bonding, sentimental, romantic and fun experience, something that you'll cherish forever!"

Larsen Wedding Rings is located in Sydney's stylish Strand Arcade and in Melbourne's iconic GPO building.  Appointments for making your own rings can be made on Saturdays and Sundays as well as during the week.  Packages start from just $1,500 for two rings in 18 carat yellow or white gold, comparable to normal retail prices for two handcrafted rings.  If you are not based in New South Wales or Victoria, don't despair.  Lars and Susie are planning to open similar stores in Brisbane, Canberra and Adelaide in the near future.  And if you can't wait, you can always book in at the Sydney or Melbourne shops and turn your visit into a romantic weekend away.

Rebecca and Rob were at their cousin's wedding in Fiji when he proposed.  "Rob and the boys had gone out on a deep-sea fishing trip the day before and that was when he asked for and received my dad's blessing.  Rob suggested a kayak trip the following day, out to a deserted sandbar he'd found.  He organised a picnic for us and so off we went.  It was so quiet and peaceful out there.  He'd reached the outer edge of the sand bank that was sitting in about an inch of water, when out of the blue, Rob got down on one knee and with an opened ring box in his hand, and asked me to marry him."

Rebecca saw an ad for Larsen Wedding Rings that featured a ring she fell in love with.  "We went to meet and get quotes from other jewellers but none of them instilled the confidence or listened to what I wanted."

"We heard about the Wedding Ring Experience, where Larsen's steps you through actually making each other's wedding rings from concept to shiny completion.  Making each other's wedding bands was a very personal and romantic opportunity and we just couldn't pass it up.  The whole process was a lot of fun.  After a concentrated but very satisfying few hours, we'd transformed two rough pieces of gold into two beautiful rings.

"Seeing the rings take shape and ultimately transform from their raw state of two blocks of gold to the beautiful jewellery that we now wear, was an unbelievable experience.  We even incorporated the fact we had made each other's wedding rings into our wedding vows and most people that we tell about the experience think it is terribly romantic!"

Jewellery Handbook article: "An Innovative Jewellery Concept"

Thanks to an innovative jewellery concept introduced by Larsen Wedding Rings in 2007, couples can now be their own designers when it comes to crafting their wedding rings.

Under the guidance of an experienced jeweller, couples can create any design from plain wedding bands to intricate designs that match perfectly with the engagement ring.  If precious stones or a combination of metals are included, Larsen's jewellers will complete this stage of the process.

It takes just four hours to make two perfect wedding bands and many couples enjoy the time spent together.  At the end of the process, couples can enjoy complimentary champagne to toast their experience.  The experience at Larsen Wedding Rings isn't limited to just engaged couples, and can be tailored to suit any relationship or occasion.  From commitment rings to eternity rings, this opportunity to make your loved one's ring is truly unique and personal.

Located in the historic Strand Arcade in Sydney and in Melbourne's GPO, and with plans to open in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, visit www.larsenweddingrings.com.au for more information.

Make your very own wedding bands under the guidance of an experienced jeweller. Larsen Wedding Rings specialises in providing couples with the unique experience of making each other’s wedding rings under the guidance of an experienced jeweller. It is the first and only company to offer this type of service in Australia.

According to founders, Lars and Susie Larsen, the concept was launched because “couples love the idea of wearing a ring made by their partner, which makes the rings so much more meaningful. It’s such a unique, romantic and fun experience and it only takes about four hours to make the rings.”

You needn’t worry that you have no experience or aren’t particularly creative, as you will be guided through the entire process by your own expert jeweller, who will ensure the finished rings are absolutely perfect.

Using century-old techniques, the process of making two perfect wedding bands is surprisingly easy, taking only four hours in a fun and romantic setting, and is celebrated with a glass of champagne at the end.

You can choose any design, from plain wedding bands to more intricate designs that match perfectly with the engagement ring.

If you would like to include diamonds, a mix of metals or engraving, your dedicated jeweller will complete this stage of the process. For an exceptionally personal touch, heirloom jewellery can even be melted down and incorporated into the wedding rings.

Larsen Wedding Rings was developed alongside Larsen Jewellery, which makes hand-crafted engagement rings and other custom-made jewellery and supplies diamonds at wholesale prices.

Larsen Wedding Rings is located in Sydney’s stylish Strand Arcade and Melbourne's GPO.  Appointments for making your own rings can be made on Saturdays and Sundays as well as during the week, and packages start from just $1400 including both rings.

Modern Wedding article: "Made with Love"

Until recently, personalised vows, modified monograms and 'his' and 'hers' towels were the extent of customisable married life.  Now however, times are a-changing and the circus of wedding ceremonies has a whole new ring!  If vows that merely slip in your fiance's name seem to lack heartfelt intimacy, consider a customised ring that you and your fiance could not only design together, but physically make for each other.  Trust me, if Romeo could have, he would have!

Larsen Wedding Rings, as the only interactive wedding company in Australia (with jewellery shops in Sydney and Melbourne), offers a unique experience that gives couples the opportunity to extend the romantic raison d'etre of the ring into the pre-wedding process.  Designing and making a ring for your partner as a truly everlasting token of love and commitment is possibly the most romantic gesture one can make.  By replacing a generic piece of jewellery with a personal handcrafted wedding ring, Larsen Wedding Rings re-defines romance.  Susie Larsen explains why she has such a passion for the experience of self-made wedding rings: 'Couples love the idea of wearing a ring made by their loved one.  It makes the rings so much more special and meaningful as they have not only created each other's rings, but a memory that will last a lifetime."

The Personalised Process

While making a wedding ring from scratch may conjure up images of a blacksmith heating metal over a cauldron while his horse waits for new shoes in the stable, the experience at Larsen Wedding Rings could not be further removed.  The Larsen experience, which is surprisingly easy, can be completed in one visit to their stylish setting (not a stable in sight), and your efforts are celebrated at the end with a toast of champagne.  The process begins with an initial consultation with one of the jewellers to discuss exactly the ring design you have in mind; this ensures that you will get exactly what you want.  Once you are happy with your design you move to the workbench which is where the real magic happens!  The ring making process involves four main phases: melting, milling, soldering and the finishing touches of filing, buffing and polishing.  For the duration of the ring making process, which only takes about four hours, an expert jeweller will be by your side, offering guidance and ensuring that your rings turn out perfectly.  You will need no prior knowledge or experience in the art of ring making or design, rather an open mind and a loving fiance.

J'Adore Adornments

To make the process even more special, couples can add meaningful finishing touches to their wedding rings.  Variations to a standard ring are as endless as imagination allows.  Rings can be classically simplistic bands or intricately designed pieces.  By making the rings with the aid of the jeweller, couples are able to have them matched perfectly with the engagement ring.  If you choose to add romantic adornments such as diamonds and precious stones, a combination of different metals (yellow gold, white gold, rose gold and platinum are available), engraved sweet-nothings or even heirloom jewellery, an experienced jeweller can add these finishing touches to make your rings even more meaningful.

Tried and True

To give your handmade wedding rings the attention they deserve, incorporate them completely with the wedding ceremony itself.  Stephen and Megan, who made their rings with Larsen Wedding Rings, only have praise for the experience.  'It was very special to exchange the rings we made for each other on our wedding day, we even mentioned the fact that we personally made these rings for each other in our vows'.

Wedding Ring Workshop

With more brides than ever favouring custom-made engagement rings, the trend for contributing to your ring design has gone one step further - couples can now get involved in creating their own wedding rings!

When business owners Lars and Susie Larsen were planning their own wedding, they wanted to help create each other's wedding rings.  However, with no jewellers in Australia offering couples this service, they did the only thing possible - they gathered a team of talented jewellers and designers.  Now Larsen Wedding Rings, based in Melbourne and Sydney focuses on custom-made rings while also specialising in classic engagement rings for brides wanting ready-to-wear jewellery.

With studios set to open in Brisbane and New Zealand, more and more couples will now have access to the custom process.

"We like to sit with our clients and listen to their needs, then custom make a piece just for them", explains Lars.  Larsen Wedding Rings also encourages couples to roll up their sleeves and join in, guided by an experienced jeweller.  After four hours, voila!  Two wedding bands, handmade by you as perfect as if they'd been made by a professional jeweller.

"You can have the wedding date engraved inside and we often get asked to engrave secret messages, names and lines of a song", Lars tells us.  And if you don't want to compromise on a fancy finish, diamond, other gemstones and speciality finishes can be added by the professionals after you've made the basic rings.

Packages start at $1,400 for the pair of rings, and the jewellers can quote you on any special finishes you'd like to add.  For more information about creating your own rings visit www.larsenweddingrings.com.au.

By working with a designer to custom-make your wedding band you can perfectly match the shape and design of your engagement ring.

If you’ve been searching for the perfect ring but can’t quite find what you’re looking for, designing your own wedding band is another option.

Larsen Wedding Rings in Melbourne and Sydney is the only company in Australia to offer couples the unique experience of making each other’s wedding bands. Owner Lars Larsen says making your own wedding ring is the best way to get what you want and have some fun while you’re at it.

“We give couples the opportunity to design and handcraft each other’s wedding rings using whatever metals and gemstones they choose,” says Lars.

“The couples come in for a design appointment and can use the rings we have on display as a guide, or with the help of one of our talented jewellers, let their imagination run wild and start from scratch to design something that is unique and personal.”

Once you have created the perfect design, it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work.

The whole process takes about four hours and you will learn centuries-old handcrafting techniques, which involve melting, milling and filing your chosen metal into a ring.

If you’re after plain wedding bands you can make the entire ring yourself and take it with you when you’re done.

If you’re after a more intricate design or choose to include diamonds or gemstones in your band, you can make the band yourself, and one of Larsen’s experienced jewellers will handle the stones and finish the ring for you to make sure the design is flawless.

And don’t worry about being left with an odd looking ring, Lars guarantees each ring will be perfect, just as if it was made by a professional jeweller.

For Melbourne couple Joanne and Phillip Watts, making their own rings under the watchful eye of Larsen’s experienced jewellers was a “once in a lifetime experience”.

“We were looking for rings that were unique and we came across Larsens,” says Joanne. “I had no idea we could make our own rings and it was a great way to create something that was individual and personal to us as a couple.”

“It was especially great for Phil, who really enjoyed being able to make something so beautiful and feel more involved with the whole wedding process.”

Lars says couples don’t just make their own rings for sentimental purposes, some also do it for practical ones. “A lot of women want to match their wedding ring to their engagement ring. By working with a designer to custom-make your band, you can perfectly match the shape and design of your engagement ring to create a dazzling set you will be dying to show off,” he says.
